How To Grow a Consulting Business

In this article, I’m taking you behind the scenes to show you how consulting firms can use YouTube—not just to get more leads, but to get better leads. This isn’t just about views or subscribers. It’s about building a pipeline of high-quality, referral-level leads that come directly from your videos. And I’m not going to just tell you how to do it—I’m going to show you exactly what it looks like in action.

Let’s dive in.

Ranking at the Top of YouTube: A Real Example

Meet Jason Schroeder. He runs a consulting firm for construction companies and professionals, and he’s also a great example of what this strategy can do.

If you go to YouTube right now and type in “construction management,” you’ll find Jason’s videos ranking right at the top—multiple times. That’s not a fluke. It’s the result of a very intentional strategy we built together.

Now imagine your audience—potential clients—going to YouTube and searching for answers in your area of expertise… and finding you at the top. That’s the power of a well-executed YouTube lead-generation strategy.

The YouTube Growth Story: Analytics Don’t Lie

Let’s talk numbers. When Jason and I started working together back in January of 2023, his YouTube channel was barely getting views—sometimes just one or two a day.

We filmed 20 episodes in one day, then rolled them out at one episode per week. Slowly, the numbers started climbing. A few dozen views turned into a few hundred. Then came another filming session—and we doubled the release pace to two videos per week.

By the time we hit late 2023, Jason was ready to scale up even more. We started releasing five episodes per week. Today, his channel averages between 3,000 to 5,000 views every single day—all from a highly targeted audience.

And here’s the part that matters most: Jason told me recently, “We have more leads than we can handle coming from YouTube.”

Where the Best Leads Come From

Let’s go even deeper into the data.

Inside Jason’s YouTube Analytics, we can see that the top traffic source is YouTube Search. That’s exactly what we want.

Why? Because YouTube Search is where your best leads come from. These are people who are actively searching for help in your area of expertise. They’re already looking for solutions—and when your videos rank at the top, you’re positioned as the authority.

In the last 90 days alone, Jason’s channel pulled in 125,000 views just from search. That’s not just reach—it’s relevance. That traffic is full of warm leads who are already interested in what he offers.

Turning Views Into Consulting Clients

So how do we turn all those views into actual leads?

Each video Jason publishes includes a clear call to action. Sometimes it points viewers to another valuable video. Other times, it sends them to a free resource—a lead magnet—on his website.

Once someone clicks through to his site, they can learn more about his services, see how he can help, and (importantly) opt in through a popup or contact form. That’s where the relationship begins.

This is how Jason uses YouTube to build trust first—by providing real value—so that by the time someone reaches out, they’re already warmed up and ready to work with him.

Bonus: A Little Ad Revenue Icing

A quick note on YouTube ad revenue. While it’s not the focus, Jason’s channel is now bringing in about $1,000 per month in ad income. Not life-changing, but definitely a nice little bonus for content he’s already using to land clients.

If ad revenue was the goal, we’d use a completely different strategy. But for consulting businesses, lead generation should always come first—and that’s where this strategy shines.

Strategic Titles That Rank

If you look through Jason’s channel, you’ll notice something: every single video title is intentional. That’s because we follow a system I call the LEAF Strategy—which stands for a specific approach to SEO-optimized, high-performing video content.

I break down the entire strategy in another video called “YouTube SEO Secret Strategy.” If you want to dive deep and learn how to use YouTube to grow your consulting business, that’s where I’d start.

Final Thoughts

The takeaway here is simple: YouTube isn’t just a content platform—it’s a lead engine. If you follow the right strategy, stay consistent, and provide value to your target audience, you can grow a pipeline of qualified consulting leads—just like Jason did.
